 "Rooted Beginning" is part of my series of paintings titled Rural Inhabitants, which focuses on reawakening the memories left behind in abandoned houses. Memories may not be visible but linger in the forms that still exist. The figure represents a memory while the structure defines the present reality. Inspired by the tendency to bury the past away in formations incapable of surviving forever, the memories of the past also become a form, tangible and capable of decay.

The couple in the painting has now passed, but their memories live on through the artwork. The image used as a reference was a snapshot taken of the newly wed couple in the late '40s. They were married shortly after the man in the painting returned from war. Their love for each other is infectious, and that is why I wanted to preserve the memory of their time together.
